Problem

Development work has small gaps: a tool is running, a build is finishing, or an agent is working. Those moments are useful for a quick task, but opening a full project-management app can take more attention than the task itself.

Tasklane is a compact place to capture that work, make a little progress, and return to the main task without losing the thread.

Capture Without Changing Context

The menu-bar app and global shortcut make the board available from wherever work is happening. Quick Add is designed for a short thought between longer tasks: enter it, add another if needed, then get back to what was already open.

A Small Board

Tasks move through three familiar columns: To Do, In Progress, and Done. Dragging a card between columns or into a new order keeps the board easy to scan and makes the next action visible without introducing a larger project-management workflow.

Progress Beyond a Status

Some work is easier to describe as steps or a target than as a single status. Checklists break a task into smaller actions, while quantity goals show current progress toward a number. Keeping these on the task lets the board show movement even when the work is not finished yet.

Recurring Work Without a Backlog

Recurring tasks are useful for habits and routines, but repeated unfinished copies quickly become noise. Tasklane keeps at most one unfinished occurrence for each recurring task, so a missed item does not fill the board with duplicates.

Local Storage and History

Tasklane works without an account and keeps tasks on the Mac. Backup and restore give people a way to carry or recover their task data. Completed work can move into a read-only archive, leaving a history to revisit while keeping the active board focused on current tasks.

Lessons Learned

Quick capture matters only if there is enough structure to resume the work later. Tasklane keeps task progress visible while letting people open the full checklist when they need it, without making every card large.
